Does the free version of Resolve use the GPU?
Yes, but Resolve Studio adds hardware decoding of H.264 and H.265 and more GPU features. For camera footage in those formats, Studio makes a large difference.
How much GPU memory for DaVinci Resolve?
16GB for 4K timelines, 32GB for 6K to 8K or heavy noise reduction. Running out of video memory causes errors, not just slowness.
Will the same machine run Premiere Pro and After Effects?
Yes. The profile is similar: a fast processor, a capable card and fast storage. After Effects leans more on the processor and memory.
